the better fish orchestra provides research and development service on a retainer basis to ambitious, person-centric organizations. for myself, my background is in reliability engineering, distributed and decentralized protocols and systems, and information theory. i am typically engaged to bring technological needs online gently, by exposing relevant unknowns in the pathway between code and viable installation. i use strong words.
2017 - 2018 • Pivotal • Site Reliability Engineer ¶
As a reliability engineer, I maintained mission-critical at-scale production systems with a small team of colleagues. This team was (and is) responsible for discerning and advancing the state-of-the-art SRE techniques best applicable to Pivotal’s substantial development division. I was responsible for:
- designing & maintaining user-centric monitoring and reliability toolchains
- optimizing and designing production deployments of infrastructure and software
- integrating developers and their products into a constantly evolving paas
- devising next-generation devops workflows for organizations of hundreds of engineers
- rapid on-call monitoring and incident response
- delivering lectures and workshops to advance the growth and refinement of our operations practice
2016 - 2018 • Storybook Labs • Director of Products ¶
As a strategic product leader, I survey the social and economic climate and produce a cohesive developmental direction for our small team in order to address human needs and cultural opportunities. I manage the technical execution and delivery of software properties, and facilitate leadership and advisory influence at the strategic level. I am responsible for:
- enabling my team to deliver the best and most necessary information systems to drive forward the mission of storybook labs
- managing the personnel growth and organizational plans for that team
- strategic direction-setting and market placement for the capabilities of our team, based on the high-level purposes and intentions set by leadership
2015 - 2017 • Pivotal • Software Engineer ¶
As a core contributor to several open-source products, I practiced rigorous agile & Extreme Programming development processes to sustainably & rigorously drive forward the growth of Pivotal’s substantial interoperating product offerings. I was responsible for:
- constant pair-programming and human-centric team health practices
- rigorous test driven development, and analyzing where this practice provides best risk reduction
- optimizing the next-generation OSS continuous-integration system, Concourse CI, for a diversity of workloads
- bridging the developer/operator divide with BOSH, an expressive operations & cloud deployment manager

As a sound and signal processing specialist, I worked on a suite of products surrounding QLab, our industry-defining stage sound & music orchestration software. I was responsible for:
- designing & building an MVP product for a modular QLab companion/control plane
- maintaining and patching iOS and macOS applications using Objective-C
- planning upcoming features and improvements to the signal processing engine underlying QLab in cohesion with our small team
